Doctors in France have found a cure for the deadly symptom of coronavirus in clinical trials. This was reported by TASS with reference to the hospital organization Assistance publique – Hopitaux de Paris (AP-HP).
So, trials of a cure for rheumatoid arthritis have shown its effectiveness in combating one of the potentially deadly symptoms of a coronavirus-induced disease – hypercytokinemia, or a cytokine storm. It is believed that patients with this disease suffer from acute respiratory failure.
The first results relate to a selective controlled multicentric study with tocilizumab, a monoclonal antibody that blocks the cytokine receptor interleukin-6 and is used, inter alia, in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis.
The study covered 129 patients. Of these, 65, in addition to the usual treatment, took this drug, and the other 64 performed the role of the control group and received only the usual treatment. According to the results of observations, it turned out that a smaller number of patients were in critical condition.
Earlier in Russia, the effectiveness of the drug against malaria Mefloquine against coronavirus was confirmed . Tests were conducted on 347 infected people. In 78 percent of patients with moderate to severe conditions during treatment with mefloquine, “there is a positive clinical dynamics, regression or stabilization of changes in the lung tissue.”
